Getting Value Out of Television?

I like almost every other American watch TV. I enjoy the occasional hour or two spent on the couch simply letting other people entertain me. Yet, while I din't see anything wrong with spending a bit of time in mindlessness, I have found that I tend to be drawn toward television shows with a bit of intelligence. Intelligent televesion shows are TV shows that use the canvas of television to tell us a story about the world we live in. Intelligent TV forces us to think about things such as morality, the role of government, the role of police, and more. In my opinion these shows serve a higher purpose other than simple entertainment and that is exactly what this blog is going to be about.

I am going to pick a television series that I feel is "intelligent television" and then will discuss each epidsode of the show in the context of a larger picture. For example, I know I will be writing about HBO's The Newsroom and in so writing will talk about the many issues that each episode brings up. This blog will not be a review of shows or try to stay up with whatever is Blingworty, but instead will use TV as a lens to help me focus discusssion about the various issues facing us every day.
